Welcome

Welcome to South Malawi with Liwonde National Park, Malape Pillars, Lake Chilwa, the Plateau, Mulanje Massif, and the yearly Zomba City Festival.

Save the date: 28-28th April 2024

There are many things to do in Zomba town. There is a nice market where you can find everything you need; from vegetables and fruit to kitchen ware, car parts, phone chargers, computer cables, tailors, fabrics (chitenje), food (nsima & relish or chicken & chips), macadamia nuts and much more.

You can visit the historical centre or walk in the botanic gardens before having a coffee or food at one of the cafes or restaurants. For location, opening times and contact details, select food & drink from the menu.

Zomba Mountain is a beautiful place for fresh air, an easy hike or a quite challenging mountain bike trip. Zomba has a Tour Guide Association; we recommend to use a guide because not only will he enhance the experience and can tell you beautiful stories, you reward a local man who works to support his family.

For trips and prices, places to rent mountain bikes and how to contact guides, click on Activities in the menu.

Liwonde National Park is known for its big elephant translocation and the recent re-introduction of big cats. One of the best things to do is to take a 2-hrs boat trip on the Shire river or relax on one of the viewing decks of the lodges. More information about Liwonde will follow soon.

Next year’s festival is the last weekend of April

Zomba City Festival 2023 was funded by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation (MIAF) and Goethe-Institut. The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with the financial contribution of the European Union and the support of the Organisation of ACP States.
